Learn From Successful Concrete Professionals

There's an old saying that "those who can, do; those who can't, teach." This is almost a universal law… almost - Concrete Design School is one of the few exceptions.

Consider this, do you want to take a class from a company/person that couldn't make it in the business they are attempting to teach you? A company that teaches concrete countertops, sinks, fabric-forming and pricing and yet couldn't make it as a business doing those exact things? That sounds crazy, yet that is the state of the union for training options in this market segment.

I founded Gore Design Co. in 2004. I have been operating a successful high-end concrete company for more than 15 years and I hold occasional workshops to pass on real-world knowledge that matters. I didn't learn the skills that I teach from reading a magazine article or watching YouTube videos, I learned them the honest way; experience. Calculus won't help you run a successful concrete business but my training can. When you are ready to take the next step and attend a hands-on workshop with actual substance really contemplate the importance of learning from someone that does this day-in and day-out.

I have been teaching GFRC for concrete sinks and countertops longer than anyone else, that is a fact. I have been teaching fabric-forming longer than anyone else (as well as pioneered most of the methods attempted to be taught by others), that too is a fact.

Dusty Baker is the originator and most experienced practitioner of the DustyCrete finish, that is a fact. Jon Schuler is widely regarded as the most knowledgable person regarding concrete mix designs and sealing technologies and he pioneered upright casting with ECC, that is also a fact.

Invest in your business, learn from the proven pro's. Innovators not imitators - Concrete Design School.

Registration is Now Open for the Spring 2019 Workshops, with Jon Schuler!

We’ve received a lot of emails from folks inquiring about the next workshop dates with Jon Schuler, and we’re pleased to announce the Spring 2019 Workshop are officially open for registration! Additionally, we are going to be offering the Furniture Design Workshop, which is rarely offered and always popular, so you’ll want to get in on that. Click here to sign-up for the ‘5-Day All-In Workshop’, or you can register a la carte via the links below. We look forward to seeing you late April/early May!

Review of the February 2019 Concrete Design School GFRC, ECC, Fabric-Forming, Post-Tensioning, DustyCrete, and Concrete Sink Workshops

Another series of Concrete Design School workshops has come and gone. It was a great week of training where we covered ECC, GFRC, SCC, UHPC, DustyCrete, Fabric-Forming, Concrete Sinks, and Concrete Countertops. We made a lot of awesome pieces, awesome friends, and even tested the strength of a sink with 8 rounds of 45-70 (spoiler, it held up great)! It’s time to rest for a minute and take a look at the production schedule for the next few months to see where we can work in another class. Keep an eye on the website, we’ll announce the dates shortly.

New KODIAK PRO Concrete Admixtures Now Available

If you’re like me, you are constantly striving to create the absolute best product possible, from a materials viewpoint as well as design. KODIAK PRO just released 2 new concrete admixtures that will up your concrete game.

The first is ‘BOOST’ - this admixture, used at the upper end of the loading rate, allows you to de-mold your pieces the same day in addition to improving the overall performance of your concrete. Dosed at the low end of the loading rate will increase hydration of your mix which reduces shrinkage and lowers permeability - both good things. Needless to say, if you’re casting concrete you should be adding BOOST.

The second admix is simply named ‘THE BEST PLASTICIZER’, and for good reason, it is the best plasticizer we have ever used. It comes in a powder form, it is extremely potent without retarding the mix as many other plasticizers will when dosed at higher rate. If you want the best concrete then you need to use THE BEST PLASTICIZER!

The next workshops have been scheduled for February 4-8, 2019

Great news! The next workshops have been scheduled and will be held February 4-8, 2019! We are going to teach our three most popular workshops - they sold out last time, and we anticipate they will again for this event, so if you want to attend register today.

The favored workshop for the majority of attendees is to attend all three workshops over the one week period, this is called the All-In Workshop. This route saves you money on travel expenses, time away from work and the family, and we offer a special reduced rate if you register for the All-In Workshop. We look forward to meeting you in February!

Looking back at the May 2018 Workshops, and looking FORWARD to the September 2018 Workshops!

The May 2018 concrete training classes wrapped up a few weeks ago, and WOW, what an amazing group of talented folks! We had a great time getting to know everyone and the pieces they made in the workshops were top notch. Now that the May classes are in the books we are getting emails asking about the next class dates. Unfortunately we have a lot of projects in the queue at the GDCo./Hard Goods Studio, so the soonest dates we could lock in are:

September 17-18 / 2-Day Dusty-Crete Workshop

September 19 / 1-Day Post-Tensioned Concrete Workshop

September 20-21 / 2-Day Fabric-Forming + GFRC Sink Workshop

or, take ALL THREE in ONE WEEK:

September 17-21 / All-In Workshop

All three of these classes are extremely popular, and based on the number of emails we've received the training events will fill-up quickly. If you want to get in you need to register TODAY, not tomorrow!
